I'm sitting in the train again feeling Déjà-vu as I start out for another trip to another side of the world. Three weeks ago I was climbing the rock faces in Queenstown with awe-inspiring landscapes and people I might never meet again. A week ago I was fishing for trout in the crystal clear waters of Goulter-river with my Friend Tuomas. To spend a mere weekend home in Finland before setting out for another journey has left me suspended between realities.
Meeting other travelers in New Zealand has raised many questions. I guess the main thing that fascinates people in travelling is the get away. To escape a reality that seems meaningless or dull. To set out in search for a place to call home.
On a rainy day in New Zealand I ran into an article by another traveler. The article was titled "The hardest part of traveling no one talks about" It tells about the thoughts of people who get out there and don't really want to go back. For these people traveling becomes a way of life.
I have waited for the Africa-adventure for a long time. Confusion grew in me this morning. I really should have felt excited and happy about another dream come true. Yet my thoughts lingered in the past weekend and I had difficulties focusing on packing gear and planning the trip.
I have realized that I love my life in Finland. I love my studies and I love my friends and family. I would never become one of those people for whom traveling becomes a reality.
But I'm sitting in the train again. Off to Mozambique and South Africa. The red rock of Watervalboven, the sky high peaks of the Dragon mountains and the clear water of the Indian Ocean are calling me. My very special friend Joonas Kinni is waiting for me in Mozambique. It's good to know that I won't be alone on this one. Slowly but surely I shift my thoughts to make the most if it.
Let's tune in to taste another reality
